Beijing, June 25 — China supports Iran’s sovereignty following accusations that Israel violated a ceasefire deal in Gaza. The Chinese Foreign Ministry urged all sides to respect international law and avoid further escalation.
The statement came after Iran condemned Israel for what it called an “unprovoked attack.” Tehran said the move broke the recent ceasefire agreement and raised tensions in the region.
“China supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, including Iran,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian. He called on all parties to stay calm and honor the ceasefire. “We hope all sides will act responsibly,” he added.
China Deepens Its Ties With Iran
This response shows how close China and Iran have become in recent years. Beijing has increased its role in Middle East diplomacy, aiming to act as a stabilizing force.
Earlier this year, China helped Iran and Saudi Arabia restore ties. That deal marked a major breakthrough in the region. Now, China is stepping in again—this time in support of Iran against Israel.
Iran welcomed China’s support. Iranian media called it “a timely show of unity.” Iran also urged other nations to condemn what it sees as Israeli aggression. Local reports claimed Israel hit targets in southern Gaza. However, these claims have not yet been independently confirmed.
Israel Denies Breaking the Truce
Israel denies Iran’s accusations. Officials say the strikes were a response to renewed rocket attacks from Gaza. “Israel is still committed to the ceasefire,” said an Israeli military spokesperson. “But we must defend our people when under attack.”
The ceasefire was brokered by Egypt and Qatar earlier this month. It was fragile from the start. Any new violence could undo weeks of peace efforts.
China Sends a Message to the West
By backing Iran, China is also sending a signal to the West. While the U.S. supports Israel, China is building ties with countries like Iran. This move may shift global power dynamics.
Experts say China wants to act as a neutral peace broker. At the same time, it’s growing influence among nations that feel sidelined by the West.
